Animals at the zoo

I saw a koala eating gum leaves (eucalyptus)

A kangaroo going for a hop.
An echidna going for a waddle (and sucking up a few ants)
And a kookaburra (not laughing) in a tree!

Sydney's Taronga Zoo

I rode another ferry to Taronga Zoo. Here I am with a big stuffed koala, but I saw lots of real ones too. I also saw kangaroos, emus, echidnas and platypus. What fun!

More Manly Beach

Here you can see some of the beach at Manly. It is on the coast north of Sydney on the Pacific Ocean.
The surf life savers were going out in their boat to make sure people were ok. There were strong under currents that day and surfers with their boards could surf the entire beach, but swimmers had to stay at one end where the life savers could watch them more closely.

Here is a young girl catching a wave. Lots of boys and girls were surfing that day!

Manly beach

One of the ferries I took to Manly Beach where I met a surf life saver named Jamie. It was a windy day with rough beach conditions so the life savers were very busy making sure every one was safe.

Off again to Sydney

Here I am across from the Sydney opera house and the Sydney harbour bridge. Again the weather was nice and warm, but this time I have moved to the Southern Hemisphere where it is summer in December. Sydney is on a harbour and I took ferries all over the place visiting lots of fun places.

Bangkok food

Here you can see some of the food that was for sale on the street. Lots of people got their meals as take away (or to go) from these street vendors, but many also sat and ate their meal at small tables right on the sidewalk.
There were fruits, nuts and vegetables that we had never seen before.

A ride in a tuk tuk

Tuk Tuk's are little open taxis. There are normal taxi's here too - closed in cars. But riding in a Tuk Tuk is much more fun. I went zooming around the streets - well not so fast as there was a lot of traffic, but we saw lots of different shops and street hawkers selling all sorts of amazing food that I had never seen before. I wasn't brave enough to taste any though!

I saw a BIG buddha

I went to see the big reclining buddha. He was very golden and very long. There was incense burning and everyone who came to see the Buddha had to take off there shoes and cover their shoulders. I was already properly dressed.

Next stop - Bangkok, Thailand

I then got on an airplane and flew to Bangkok in Thailand. Here I am on Silom street in front of a sign showing the streets in the neighbourhood. There were lots of new sights and smells in Bangkok. It was hot like Qatar but jungle hot instead of desert hot!

Qatar man with falcon

Here you can see a picture of a Qatari man in his native dress. He wears a long white thobe and a white scarf on his head with twisted black cords on top to keep it in place.
This gentleman is holding a falcon, a prized possession in Qatar.

Doha's old souq

I went for a visit to the souq - old markets in Doha.
Here I am sitting on some of the cushions that are used in the bedouin tents.

Now I am sitting in front of the shop that sells the cords that the men here wear on top of their heads to keep their scarves on!

Then I went to the gold souq - can you see me on the right. There is lots of really fancy gold jewelry here and it is very sparkly.

Driving around Doha

Doha has a lovely Corniche - like a boardwalk around the bay. It is 8km long and I went for a drive around it. There are some nice tall buildings and lots of palm trees.

First stop Doha, Qatar

My friends, Lachlan and Lauren, took me to their school, Doha English Speaking School, and I had a look around. It is a British school and all the children looked lovely in their red, white and grey uniforms. It was hot outside so all the children wore big hats when they went out to play!
